New Years Eve is so sad...
Other than realizing today I would’ve been leaving for London with a good friend and colleague and a plane-ful or college students, I am a little sad to realize that the Christmas season is over. The thing I miss the most is going to the mailbox everyday and getting cards from all over with wishes, pictures, and stories of wonderful friends and family. I love opening the envelopes and seeing...

My baby looks down on Lila Fowler and her family

My baby considers himself to be old money, and is put off by the gaucherie of the Nouveau Riche.
Whoa. Well I don’t know if that’s possible, because Lila Fowler looks down on everyone- babies included.
She’s even drawn looking down. It is physically impossible for her to not be looking down on everyone she meets.
And remember, Lila came from French...

Holiday, Oh Holiday
Every time I hear Vampire Weekend’s Holiday song on the Honda or Tommy commercials, I think of this SNL skit.

Let me tell you a little story about buying books...
msavignon:
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before! Ha!
Last year, we bought our nephew a boxed set of all seven Harry Potter books (paperback). He was 10, an advanced reader according to all accounts, and we were assured by multiple people that he loves reading.
He hated them, and hasn’t read a single one of those damn books.
The End.
Every child on my shopping list gets books. They have...

Lacrosse and All that Stuff
I’m very excited that the institution that I attend is adding Division I men’s and women’s lacrosse to its roster of sports. I really enjoy the sport and will be happy to see it on campus. Upon reading the release from the university was appalled to read:
“The average roster size for a Division I women’s lacrosse team is 25.5 student-athletes compared to 44.8...

Met with My Dissertation Advisor, and Now I Feel...
I had an impromptu meet up with my dissertation advisor this morning when dropping off an instructor-graded copy of a paper that might qualify for my exams. I had emailed him copies of two of my research papers before. Both papers were written for professors in a different department, both I thought were decent enough papers. With a little tweaking, they would be good to go and I would be...

The TSA's Going to Get Me
I will be traveling a few times in the new year and have begun to purchase my tickets online. Every site I was at this morning requires me to enter my legal name. When I enter my legal, passport-official last name the system will not accept the hyphen that is in it. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having me write in my legal name if you won’t accept it? Does anyone else have...

THOUGHTS?
So, because I care about this kind of thing even though I shouldn’t:
Sometimes I prefer to wear gold over silver, but since I usually wear silver, my wedding rings are silver. If I had a gold colored ring and wore it on my left ring finger when I went out so that…
I was always under the impression that metallics are like neutrals. My wedding and engagement...
