Sorry...
I know I have been MIA for a while and I apologize.  Things have been difficult for me here since the twins were born and I am just so drained from constantly answering the same questions for the past 7 weeks.  While the kids are still residents of the NICU, I have had very little time to do anything but work (I don’t get maternity leave) and try to take care of things at home.  I am at the...

Day 1
So this pregnancy has taken a turn for the crazy.  I was in and out of the hospital over the weekend and readmitted permanently until the twinkies get here, at least 4 weeks from now.  So let me repeat that.  I am on hospital confinement bed rest until the twins are bigger and the doctors decide that they are safe to be born.  I have just made it the past 24 hours here and haven’t gone...

Sorry
I feel more like a lurker on here than an active participant.  I’ve been frantically trying to get things together for this fall before I have the twins and after this past weekend half of my workload is gone.  Long story short, I had to make an adult decision for the feti and give up teaching two of my fall courses.  I am about two steps away from being on bed rest and I didn’t think...

invertebrate-party: ipsadixit: For people like me (people’s pleaser combined with a healthy dose of self-doubt) grading is like a torture. While grading a paper I probably come up with a better argument why a certain student should get a specific grade than the paper’s main point. It… This is why I love using a rubric for papers and then writing a small paragraph at the end of the...

msavignon: David Harvey: “Feral Capitalism Hits the Streets” I adore Harvey and have been telling all of you to buy The Enigma of Capital since last fall. Harvey is as ivory tower as it gets but I don’t think that’s a bad thing, for what it’s worth. He’s one of the most important Marxist scholars in the world, and he has publicly declares he’s ready for...

I didn’t want my posts on here to be pregnant lady complaining, but I need to vent to normal people. I am so tired of people right now. I don’t get the obsession with people wanting to touch me. I feel like a side-show freak normally, now it’s even worse. Friends and strangers just feel the need to touch the belly and even those who are polite enough to ask permission seem mad...

Another IRB gripe
paolaandfrancesca: charlie-tango: paolaandfrancesca: charlie-tango: Historians, English majors, etc. never go through the IRB even though they are supposed to. Last spring in my religion class, one of our classmates from the History Department described an elaborate interview project he was working on for his dissertation. “Wow, how the hell did you get that through the IRB?” “Uh… what is...

My Body Is Protesting Its Current State
For about a month now, I have been having RA flair ups mostly in my wrist.  When I posted on this before, every women who has been pregnant tried to help me out by telling me that they had carpal tunnel during their pregnancies.  While I appreciate them trying to empathize, it is not the same thing.  This is a painful, debilitating reminder of how much I miss my medication. I can get used to...

Footloose: the Next Generation →
If you are going to “remake” a movie, why would you make it look almost identical to the original with more skimpy clothes and amped-up action?  There was/is no need for this movie to be released.
